Terran Build Order Strategies

The Terran's generally have the most choices when in a fight because they are well balanced and have versatile troops. To counteract this flexibility, the Terrans have the most difficult way to mine resources. Since your SCVs collect minerals, Vespine gas, and produce buildings as well as repair soldiers, mineral and gas gathering tends to be reduced as you use your SCVs for other duties. This is why getting the mule quickly is important to a successful Terran build strategy. For a period of 90 seconds, a Mule can gather significantly more minerals than an SCV, which makes it an extremely helpful early battle strategy. Using the mule removes the disadvantage the Terran have in gathering minerals.
Terran Build Orders for an Early Mule
To acquire a Mule as early in the struggle as possible, match these build order instructions:
1. Accumulate 9 SCVs as early as you can, then build a Supply Depot.
2. Create another 2 SCVs and then one more Supply Depot and a Barrack in an area that will choke your ramp.
3. Ensure an SCV unit is working your Command Center at all times.
4. Close off the ramp with an additional Supply Depot as soon as the Barrack is completed.
5. Upgrade your Command Center to Orbital Command when your Barracks is constructed. You should have a total of 14 SCVs so you'll acquire sufficient minerals to perform the upgrade as soon as the Barracks is built.
6. Have 2 more SCVs mine Vespine gas as you build a Refinery.
7. To prepare for opposing attacks, produce a few Marine units.
8. Attempt to accumulate a minimum of 50 gas so you'll be able to hook up a technology lab to your initial Barracks. Then build yet another Barracks.
9. When the Orbital Command Center is finished with the upgrade, cast a Mule on the nearest minerals and continue producing SCVs.
Terran Build Order Against Zerg
To prepare for a Zerg land offensive, prepare for either a Zergling Rush attack or a full force Zergling attack. A massive Hydralisk attack together with Roaches is another possible attack. Terrans have the ability usually defend against these attacks pretty easily using the exact same build - Build 2 Barracks, one Supply Depot, and then either additional Barracks or an Academy with an upgrade then more Barracks.
You should protect yourself against the Hydralisk and Roach or Hydralisk and Zergling attacks by constructing Marines, Firebats, and if needed, Siege Tanks. Against Zerglings by themselves the use of Firebats should be enough. After emerging victorious from conflict, construct Bunkers on the outskirts of the enemy town. On defense, place your SCV units near defensive Bunkers so they can repair them as they are damaged by enemy attacks. Even though Terran's have a tendancy of walling in and taking advantage of their outstanding defense, they will at some point be overwhelmed by the opponent due to the fact that they can't compare when it comes to gathering enough minerals and gas.
Terran Build Orders vs. Protoss
A common Protoss offensive maneuver is to stage a large scale Zealot attack. The most effective way to prepare for this is to use both offensive and defensive Bunkers and to make certain you've set up at least four Barracks. Deploy scouts early - if you scout a Robotics Facility or a Cybernetics Core than your foe is most likely attempting to spawn Reavers. Wipe out Reavers with Wraiths. You can even do this if the Reavers flee into their Shuttle - simply kill the Shuttle with your Wraiths too. Fire at the Reavers from far away with your Siege Tanks, initially putting them in Siege Mode dropped close to the center of your village. Make sure you have enough distance that the Reavers can't return your attack but you can attack them. If this does not work, deploy Marines and cast Stim Packs, making sure the Marines are spread out and can't be killed with a single shot.
While Lockdown only is effective on mech troops (so doesn't work at all when facing the Zerg), it is extraordinarily useful when fighting nearly all Protoss units. Lockdown is excellent when approached by a large group of Carriers. An effective offensive strategy is to continue switching between Supply Depots and Barracks while continuing to build SCVs. Build your headquarters in a tight, closed off formation. Erect a Bunker to cover your headquarter (the reason they need to be built tightly packed), and fill up your Bunker with 4 Marines. Keep building SCVs, Barracks and Marines. Using this technique, there is no need to mine Vespine gas until later.
