Starcraft 2 Zerg Overview

The Zerg swarm consists of many various species that all are created to fill specific tasks. They are best suited for bigger areas and open spaces. Good Zerg strategy will take into account that their units are fast and cheap to produce, but are fairly weak compared to the other races. They attack best by overrunning the enemy, so do your best to attack in large numbers of units and open areas. Keep away from ramps, craters, chokes and other enclosed spaces. Remember to burrow when your units are injured - it's one of the most useful abilities the Zerg have.
Like any other species, make sure to always scout what your enemy is doing and adapt. There is no single game plan that emerges victorious no matter what, since winning strategies need you to change how you play based on your opponent's game plan.
It is vital to expand Creep in the battle. Creep allows your troops to move significantly faster and also supplies energy for your structures. Your buildings will soon die by themselves without a Creep generator near them. Unlike other races, the Zerg have to produce mining units and fighters from the same resource, which means it is very important to carefully plan the use of your production capacities. The number of Hatcheries you possess and the Larvae that they generate are the most important factor for your build orders. Generally, it's smart to create as many Drones as you can for as long as you can.
Zerg Strategy - Baneling Bust
This technique is great for attacking enemies that have walled in, which will generally be Terrans but can sometimes be Protoss as well. It combines Zergling quickness with a hidden Baneling nest whos purpose is to set up control of the map and kill enemy scouting units. Start building up Zerglings as soon as possible and start the attack when you've accumulated approximately 12-15 Zerglings and an extra 8 that will be converted into Banelings. Study Zergling Speed as you generate the Baneling nest. Deploy 2 Zerglings as a distraction and make your Banelings crushes a hole in their wall. Then you should either kill the defenders or take advantage of your improved circumstances. Be certain to keep your Baneling nest concealed - this attack works best when it's a surprise attack.
Zerg Roach/Hydralisk Strategy
This Zerg tactic uses your Roaches as shields while your Hydralisks use their immense firepower to inflict huge damage. You should determine how many Roaches and Hydras you will require by spying on your enemy and trying to find out the types of troops he is generating. Construct a 60/40 Hydra to Roach ratio if you spot a lot of air or anti-armor units. Otherwise keep an equal proportion.
Zerg Mid-Game Zergling Rush
If you're capable of getting past the initial rounds of the battle, then this is a very powerful strategy that will probably lead to your victory. The main idea behind this plan is to overwhelm your enemy with Zerglings. They are inexpensive, powerful creatures that will eventually overrun him. Continue to develop your economy, and soon lead to a victory through overpower your enemy. Utilize your spies to discover weaknesses in your opponent's defenses and take advantage of them.
