Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty - Summary in Review

Starcraft ii: wings of liberty is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game produced and released by blizzard entertainment for Microsoft windows and mac os x. The sequel to award-winning 1998 video game starcraft, was released globally on July 27, 2010. It is divided into three entities: the base game with the subtitle wings of liberty, and two soon to come expansion packs: heart of the swarm and legacy of the void. Starting in the 26th century in a far away part of the milky way galaxy, the game is based on three classes: the terrans, human exiles from earth: the zerg, a race of insectoid genetic assimilators: and the protoss, a species with vast psionic power. Wings of liberty focuses on the terrans, while the expansions heart of the swarm and legacy of the void will focus on the zerg and protoss, respectively. The game is set four years after the events of starcraft: brood war, and follows the extravagants of jim raynor as he leads an insurgent group against the autocratic terran dominion. The game includes both modern and returning characters and locations from the original game.
Critics had given the game very positive reviews, receiving an acceptable score of 93 percent from metacritic. Similar to its predecessor, starcraft ii was known for its engaging gameplay, as well as its introduction of advanced features and improved storytelling, while criticism targeted features that existed in the original starcraft game but were revoked in starcraft ii, such as the lack of lan play and the decision to split up multiplayer divisions. Starcraft ii sold a total of 3 million copies globally in only its first month of sales.
Starcraft ii features the return of the three basic species from the prior game: protoss, terran, and zerg. The single-player aspect of starcraft ii has also been modified significantly from the original game. Even though each playthrough will be different, the end result will remain continuous keeping the storyline linear. Some of the unique missions that are included had been discussed by lead designer dustin browder for the wings of liberty campaign. In one level, lava overflows the battlefield every five minutes, forcing the player to move their units to upper ground or watch them get destroyed. In a different mission, enemy forces will only attack the player at night. A major new addition to the map-making forum will be the starcraft ii marketplace and shops, where high quality maps will be purchased for a small price as premium maps over battle.Net. Between missions, players can choose forces, buildings and enhancements that are not available in the multiplayer missions. Dustin browder has mentioned that even maps like player-made dota (defense of the ancients) in warcraft iii would not meet the quality needs to be branded as a premium map. Browder discussed the final mission was one where the player tries to influence the roll of an ai controlled battle with only a single unit, a ghost. The single player missions will be highly customizable and are featured in the starcraft ii community zone.
